Wildlife Alert is an identification tool to alert military personnel serving in Afghanistan when products containing fur, anthers, horns, scales, and shells may be made from potentially threatened or endangered wildlife. The Wildlife Conservation Society and the Department of Defense Legacy Resource Management Program partnered to make this app free and available to the public.
Features:
Easy-to–use diagnostics to discern real products from fake products
Simple questions to guide the user to several animals from which to select a match
Detailed descriptions of 75 commonly traded and/or highly endangered species
Close up photos of furs, skins, antlers, horns and ivory as well as multiple photos of animals in the wild
Submit photos to aid WCS in identifying new animal products, or gathering additional information about existing photos
Use this app at on-base bazaars or when encountering wildlife products being sold as souvenirs at off-base markets. Military Police can also use this app to check whether souvenirs being brought back to the United States are legal to transport.
